McDonald’s recently switched out their classic sour cream dip for a new garlic option, and I have to say, I’m pleasantly surprised. As someone who loves a good dip but sometimes finds the herb-heavy sour cream a bit overpowering, this new garlic dip is a welcome change.
A Brighter, More Balanced Flavor
This new garlic dip is noticeably different from the get-go. It’s a brighter shade of white, with a smoother texture and less visible herbs. But don’t let the simplicity fool you – the flavor is anything but basic. It’s garlicky, yes, but not in the overpowering way that some pizza places do it. There’s a subtle sweetness that balances out the savory notes, making it a perfect complement to chicken nuggets, fries, or whatever else you’re dipping.
A Sad Farewell to Sour Cream, But…
I’ll admit, I’ll miss the tangy sour cream dip. It was unique and had its own dedicated fanbase. But I understand why McDonald’s might have opted for a more universally appealing flavor like garlic. It’s a safe bet that pairs well with most menu items.
My Plea for Plant-Based Dips
Here’s where I have one small request for McDonald’s: please make the plant-based dips a standard option with vegetarian meals! It’s a bit frustrating to see so many delicious dips on the menu that aren’t suitable for vegetarians or vegans. The sweet chili dip is a good start, but having a wider variety would be fantastic.
